Some landscapes become part of you long before you ever think of painting them. The marshes and waterways of Wilmington Island are that kind of place for me — familiar scenes I’ve grown up with and still see every time I leave home.
Change of Plans grew from that sense of familiarity, but somewhere along the way, the landscape began to wander. The marsh, the water, and the warm coastal light are unmistakably rooted in the Lowcountry, while the wooded horizon carries a feeling from somewhere a little farther away — a blending of places and memories that felt completely natural as the painting came together.
I love the way this piece holds both the familiar and the imagined. It feels like a place you might recognize, even if you’ve never actually been there.
